Officers appeal to Good Samaritan who intervened when a woman was assaulted in Darlington

Officers are appealing for a man who intervened when a woman was assaulted by a man in Darlington to come forward.

The woman was walking down Duke Street, in Darlington, shortly after midnight on Saturday morning (December 18) when she was assaulted by a man at the junction of Raby Terrace.

A passer-by who saw what was happening intervened and her attacker ran off.

A spokesperson from Durham Constabulary issued a plea for the man, or somebody who knows him, to come forward to help with their ongoing enquries.

They stated:

"We would like to trace this Good Samaritan as he may have vital information which could assist our investigation.

"Are you this man, or do you know who he is?"

A 50-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident.

He has been remanded in custody to appear at Teesside Crown Court on January 24.
