Officer taken to hospital after police van involved in crash on way to incident at a Lancashire train station

A police officer has been taken to hospital after a police van was involved in a crash in Lancashire.

The van was responding to a separate incident when it was involved in a collision with another vehicle on Pall Mall in Chorley.

No further details have been released but eyewitnesses have told LancsLive there were gangs of youths fighting in the area.

There have also been unconfirmed reports of a stabbing.

The male officer, who was the sole occupant of the van, has been taken to hospital following the crash a Lancashire Police spokesman said.

"We were called at 6.15pm to reports of a collision between a police vehicle and another vehicle on Pall Mall" the spokesman said.

"The police vehicle was travelling along Pall Mall towards Moor Road when it was involved in a collision with another vehicle at the junction with Duke Street.

"The driver and sole occupant of the police car, a male officer, was taken to hospital via ambulance.

"His injuries are not life threatening."

"The other driver has also been taken to hospital for check up for minor injuries."

The road remains closed near the Duke Street junction whilst police investigate the crash and deal with the aftermath.

The local Chorley Police division said it could remain closed for some time and urged people to avoid the area.
