Officer injured after Garda patrol cars pelted with rocks as five youths arrested in Galway

One Garda member was injured on Saturday night after a large group of youths pelted patrol cars in Galway.

Officers had been called to Millers Lane, Rahoon at 7:45pm after a number of public order incidents were reported.

Upon arrival, the large group of youths began throwing stones and rocks at Gardai.

One officer received minor injuries when hit with a rock while one patrol car was badly damaged.

Gardai remained in the area for over two hours and eventually dispersed the entire group by 10pm.

Five youths were arrested over the course of the evening but have since been released.

What to do in an emergency situation

A garda spokesperson said: "During the course of these incidents, a large number of youths were observed in the area. The youths threw rocks and other items in the direction of Gardaí and the patrol cars.

"One Garda received a minor injury when hit by a rock. A Garda patrol car was also damaged during the incident when a window was smashed by a rock.

"All persons were dispersed from the area by 10pm.

"Five youths were arrested during the course of the evening. They have since been released into the custody of their parents.

"Investigations are ongoing."
