A police officer had to be cut from the wreckage and taken to hospital with three colleagues after their squad car crashed with another vehicle in south London.

The police car collided with another vehicle around 1.30pm on Tuesday near the junction of Draycott Close with Edmund Street in Camberwell.

Four officers were injured during the crash, with one officer needing to be cut from the car.

The Metropolitan Police said their injuries are not life-threatening.

A man who was driving the other vehicle was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A Met spokesperson said: "A number of roads remain closed while emergency services, including London Ambulance Service and the air ambulance, attend.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the collision."

The London Fire Brigade also attended the scene where a cordon remains in place.

The Met’s Department of Professional Standards has been informed.
