Officer accused of neglecting duty in domestic violence investigation

A police officer will face court in September charged with allegedly neglecting his duty in relation to a reported domestic violence incident.

The senior constable is from an unspecified command in NSW Police's Northern Region, which stretches from the Central Coast into northern NSW and encompasses the Hunter.

Police said in a statement on Wednesday that an investigation began in January into the senior constable's conduct after a report that an officer had allegedly "failed to appropriately investigate a reported domestic violence incident".

Following inquiries, the officer was issued a Future Court Attendance notice on Tuesday and was charged with neglect of duty.

The officer, who has been suspended with pay, will face Newcastle Local Court on September 3.
