Office workers fed up working from home can now book a space at AK Bell Library.
After a year and a half of remote working, Culture Perth and Kinross has come up with an alternative option for those who feel the novelty of setting up an office in their kitchen has worn off.
And you may not even need to book in advance if you feel an urgent need for a change of space.
Desks can be reserved for a half day or a full day.
The designated study spaces are currently only available in Perth’s AK Bell Library.
But Culture Perth and Kinross told the Perthshire Advertiser its other libraries have informal seating and desk space that customers are welcome to use for short periods of time.
There are currently seven study desks available at the AK Bell.
The Culture Perth and Kinross spokesperson said: “Due to COVID, we introduced a booking system to manage occupancy and ensure social distancing.
“Customers can reserve a desk for a half-day or a full day.
“You don’t need to book in advance, but this ensures you will get a table at the time you want (01738 477 060 or e-mail localstudies@culturepk.org.uk ).
“We can usually accommodate on-the-day walk-ins and if we find that the designated study space is busy will do our best to find an alternative space which gives people use of a desk elsewhere on the first floor.
“With COVID restrictions easing we may return to a more informal system but having the booking system in place is beneficial to some and will remain in place for the time being.”
Culture Perth and Kinross told the Perthshire Advertiser its study space had always been popular but had been “very well used” since reopening in May.
The spokesperson said: “Most days we have between four and eight customers, mainly students, home-workers or other people who are looking for a quiet and comfortable space to work, with access to free WiFi.”
But if your job involves a lot of phone calls that may be trickier.
The spokesperson said: “Taking calls is not permitted on the first floor of the library. Quiet discussion is fine, but we do ask customers to be respectful of other library users.
“We also ask customers not to eat or drink on the first floor (except bottled water).
“These rules are in place to ensure a quiet space for people to work and to prevent damage to our archive and local and family history collections which are also located on the first floor.
“Customers are welcome to use the café library for refreshments and general conversations.”
