OFFICE closes doors at Newcastle's Eldon Square - with Paperchase set to follow soon

A popular shoe shop inside Newcastle's Eldon Square has shut down and another well-known brand is also set to close its doors for good.

OFFICE ceased trading inside the shopping centre at the end of last month and it is not yet known if the fashionable shoe chain will reopen another store in the city. Shutters have gone down over the storefront of the unit, which sits close to the Levi's store, however, no one from the brand responded to ChronicleLive's request for comment on the closure.

Meanwhile, stationary brand, Paperchase, has also announced it is closing down its Eldon Square store after the company fell into administration at the start of the year. Large 'closing down' signs are in the windows of the store, which sits close to the shopping centre's empty Debenhams unit.

ChronicleLive understands that staff do not have a date for when the store will close, however, it is believed that it will remain open for the next couple of weeks while it holds a major sale to clear its remaining stock. The Newcastle store is said to be one of 106 Paperchase stores set to close across the UK.

The Paperchase website has also shut down with the retailer issuing a message to customers on its homepage that said it was closing with a "heavy heart," and thanked those who gave the brand "support and loyalty" over the years.

Eldon Square was unable to provide any details on the closures of the two stores when contacted by Chronicle Live.

The news comes just months after the closure of another prominent city centre shop, Vans on Blackett Street. The American brand, which sells skateboarding shoes and clothing, has been boarded up and signs in the window of the store have announced that it has permanently closed.
