Offensive line struggles mar Day 4 of Dolphins training camp

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before — the Miami Dolphins couldn’t get anything going offensively because of issues up front along the offensive line. New day, same story!

At least that was the case yesterday for Day 4 of the Miami Dolphins’ 2019 training camp. All accounts scored yesterday as a massive win for the Dolphins defense, even with mental errors that sent the unit to Brian Flores’ “TNT” wall several times throughout the day. With a physical showing in the front seven, the Dolphins defense pushed around Miami’s remodeled offensive line.

If there’s a silver lining to be found, it is that the Dolphins’ recipe on defense this season calls for a bunch of heavy handed defenders along the line who can dictate the line of scrimmage. They’re certainly having success against the likes of their teammates through the first few days of 2019 training camp.

The issues were most prominent along the goal line, where real estate is precious and the ante is upped. It is mano y mano, man on man, hat on hat. You vs. the man across from you — can you and your teammates physically dominate across the board and get a yard? That’s been tough sledding for the Dolphins’ offensive line.

The only certainty along the offensive line at this point is Laremy Tunsil. Offensive line coach Pat Flaherty has stated openly that the right tackle position is “wide open”. Add in the variables on the interior (Chris Reed, Daniel Kilgore, Jesse Davis and Michael Deiter) and we’re not looking to be close to a solution. We just have to hope for now that the pieces fit with one another.
