Offensive line is setting the tone for the Texans offense

The Houston Texans offense has enjoyed success as of late. In back-to-back wins — over the Atlanta Falcons and Kansas City Chiefs — the offense has scored 77 points, while also becoming the NFL’s most successful red zone team (scoring touchdowns at a 71.43% rate for the season).

Who is setting the tone for that fiery offense? According to offensive coordinator Tim Kelly, it’s the offensive line.

“I know the offensive line is vital in setting the tone for the offense,” said Kelly on Thursday.

The Texans’ five-man group of (left to right) Laremy Tunsil, Max Scharping, Nick Martin, Zach Fulton and Tytus Howard (now Roderick Johnson due to injury) has kept quarterback Deshaun Watson clean throughout the win-streak, as they haven’t allowed a sack.

The line has also paved ways for running backs Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson, who have combined for 269 yards and two touchdowns on the ground during the win-streak.

“We want to be a physical group that can come out and run the ball and protect the quarterback,” Kelly continued. “Obviously, I think it starts with those five guys up front and the way they play and the mindset they have when they take the field.”

The Texans offensive line looks to continue setting the tone for Sunday’s divisional tilt with the rival Indianapolis Colts. Their speedy, deep defense presents a challenge they have not seen over the last two weeks.
