Offensive line identity for 2020 Miami Dolphins is clear

The Miami Dolphins offensive line identity in 2019 was pretty unstable, although that may be putting it nicely. And the Dolphins seem to agree, seeing as how this team has assembled a brand new offensive line unit — one that very well may push all incumbent starters out of their current roles and see the team debut a brand new offensive line all together in 2020.

They won’t likely get much objection from Miami Dolphins fans — not after the display the team put on last season. After all, Ryan Fitzpatrick was the team’s leading rusher for the year as a nearly 40 year old veteran quarterback running for his life. Oh, right. And Fitzpatrick only started 13 games, too.

But with the Dolphins’ new look offensive line now presumably in place, the Dolphins have a clear and obvious blueprint for their identity up front.

They want to punch you in the mouth.

This group is loaded with power. Draftees Austin Jackson, Robert Hunt and Solomon Kindley average over 325 pounds apiece. Free agent signee Ereck Flowers is pushing 330 pounds himself. This team, which struggled so much to sustain gaps and win real estate at the point of attack, has suddenly gone out and invested wave after wave of reinforcement to the offensive line group with the intention of pushing defenses around up front.

And with physical RB Jordan Howard now primed to take on a primary ball carrier role in the backfield, the Dolphins aren’t going to play cute with you. They’re going to challenge you. They’ll run right at you and they’re going to do it over and over again — that is of course until they sprinkle in an RPO or a play action shot over the top to keep you on your toes.

Get excited, Miami. For the first time in a long time, the Dolphins actually gave two hoots about the big men up front. Here’s to seeing it pay dividends.
