Offensive Coordinator Kevin O’Connell will take over the play calling in Washington

In one of the first moves that former offensive line coach and now interim head coach Bill Callahan will make during his Redskins tenure, he will see that the playcalling duties are given to offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell.

O’Connell, who was named the OC earlier this year, and who many believe to be one of the next great offensive minds in the NFL, has been rumored to stand as a great candidate for the coaching vacancy in Washington. The duties of playcalling for the rest of the season will act as a nice test for his potential tenure with the Redskins.

As well as naming the OC the new playcaller, Callahan also announced in his introductory press conference that he would like to focus the offense on the running game, and he envisions a strong rushing game as a good plan for success.

This will mean that both Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson are likely to get a bigger workload, and second-year back Derrius Guice will receive that opportunity as well when he gets back from injury.
