CINCINNATI _ One unlucky inning was enough to do Wily Peralta in on Monday night.
The Cincinnati Reds strung together four consecutive two-out singles _ none hit hard _ in the first inning to grab a three-run lead that stood the rest of the way as the Milwaukee Brewers fell, 3-0, at Great American Ball Park.
Peralta (6-10) pitched well overall, allowing six hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings. But Keyvius Sampson was tough in his second start of the season for the Reds, as the Brewers offense managed just six singles overall.
A walk to Eugenio Suarez two batters in came back to haunt Peralta in the first inning, as Adam Duvall and Brandon Phillips followed with consecutive infield singles to load the bases.
Scott Schebler's single to center scored Suarez and Duvall, then Tyler Holt followed by blooping a fourth consecutive single to short right to make it 3-0.
Peralta got Tucker Barnhart to fly out to end the frame, and that jump-started a streak of 15 straight batters set down by the right-hander.
The Brewers' bats didn't do much to back up Peralta, however.
Twice they loaded the bases with two outs against Sampson, only to come up empty each time. Sampson struck out a career-high-tying seven before being lifted for Blake Wood in the fifth with the bases loaded.
Their last opportunity came in the seventh when, with Jonathan Villar on second base and two outs, Scooter Gennett singled to right. Villar was waved in, ultimately being thrown out easily at home for the third out with Ryan Braun due up next as the tying run.
