Offender who 'seriously injured' man in stabbing outside the Central Club in Chopwell still at large

A man sustained 'serious injuries' following a stabbing in Newcastle in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The altercation which involved the victim and another male outside the Central Club on Derwent Street in Chopwell at around 12.45am.

North East Ambulance Service confirmed their presence at the scene and stated that the man, who survived the assault was soon taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson stated:

"We received a call at 12:29am on Saturday 24 October to reports of an injured man at an address on Derwent Street, Chopwell.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew and one Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) crew, and the patient was taken to hospital for further treatment."

A Northumbria Police spokesperson also confirmed: “Shortly after 12.45am on Sunday we were contacted by the ambulance service who were responding to reports of a serious assault in Chopwell.

“It was reported that a male, aged 42, had been involved in a verbal altercation with a male thought to be known to him, inside the Central Club on Derwent Street, before the pair left the premises.

“The victim is then alleged to have been assaulted by the male, sustaining serious but non-life threatening injuries consistent with having been caused by a bladed article."

They added that enquiries into the whereabouts of the offender are ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to come forward.

The spokesperson added: “Enquiries to trace the offender remain ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police via the Tell us Something page on our website quoting log NP-20211024-0041.”
