Offaly 3-17 Sligo 0-15: The Faithful go into the next round of qualifiers

Offaly made it two Championship wins in a row for the first time since 2010 today.

Goals from Niall McNamee (2) and Shane Horan powered them to a comfortable win over Sligo in Tullamore.

McNamee and Horan fired in goals in the first 13 minutes to give the home side a solid start, but despite playing with the wind, they went through a fallow period in the second quarter meaning the game was still in the balance at half time.

A powerful driving run from Eoin Carroll set up McNamee for a simple palmed goal shortly after the interval, and from then Sligo’s race was run.

Barry Gorman’s point after 54 minutes was their first score of the second half and by then Offaly’s lead was into double figures, and they cruised to the end line from there, with 10 starting players getting on the scoresheet.

Scorers Offaly : N McNamee (2-2, 1f), B Allen (0-4, 1f), S Horan (1-1), P Dunican (0-3, 2f), (0-1 45), C Mangan (0-2), P Cunningham, E Carroll, A Sullivan, N Darby, D Dempsey (0-1 each).

Scorers Sligo : N Murphy (0-41f), S Carrabine (0-2f), P O’Connor, D Cummins; P Hughes (0-2 each), P Kilcoyne, D Quinn; B Gorman (0-1 each).
