If you haven’t attended an eye test for a few years, you may find that today’s experience is worlds apart from your last one.
OPSM has invested in some industry-leading technology to ensure your next eye exam can be a comprehensive analysis of your eye health, offering solutions customised to your eyes, with optometrists guiding you through every stage of the process.
“We use our most advanced technology to digitally measure your vision to create you a personalised vision solution,” says Sephora Miao, senior manager of eye care operations at OPSM. “It’s a very premium experience.”
Here’s what you can expect at a modern eye exam.
The experience begins before you arrive
“We understand that patients may schedule an eye exam to address a variety of vision needs,” Miao says. “Our personalised booking process prepares for an eye exam experience that is tailored to each individual. Our screening process asks questions about your eye health and concerns, to understand the reason for the visit.
“This is so that our patients come in knowing exactly what to expect and how to get the most out of their appointment.”
More advanced digital eye exam
One word: Clarifye. This technology has people excited, and for good reason: it’s redefining the standard eye test process.

Clarifye is an eye exam experience offered in selected OPSM stores. Digital, detailed and personalised, it starts with a pre-test, in which one device takes eight precise measurements of your eyes – within about 90 seconds.
This gives your optometrist a world of information about your eye health status.
An immersive experience
The next stage in the Clarifye experience involves using a new-look phoropter head (the mechanism that sits in front of you for you to look through), but that’s where similarity to the past ends. Because this is a digital experience, everything your optometrist displays can be adjusted in real time.
A visual representation of your old prescription can be viewed next to your eyes’ current needs to show how your vision may have changed. Specific simulations can be brought up on screen as well – it’s an immersive experience.
Breaking down the jargon
The Clarifye digital eye exam allows your optometrist to take a closer look at your eyes and tailor your vision solution. And they will consult you every step of the way.

“We dedicate more time and attention at your appointment to listen to your needs, making sure that our patients are involved throughout the whole eye examination journey and walk away with a personalised prescription ready for their new pair of glasses,” Miao says.
A deeper dive: checking the retina
In addition to a bulk-billed eye exam, OPSM can provide an ultra-wide digital retinal scan (UWDRS). This offers a 200-degree view of the back of your eye (compared with a standard retinal scan of 45 degrees) and can help your optometrist detect early signs of eye conditions.
The UWDRS is a fantastic screening tool that can be added to a standard eye-test experience for a nominal fee. Ask your optometrist if this additional scan is right for you.
A 3D snapshot
Another impressive piece of technology available is optical coherence tomography (OCT). In the short time it takes to snap a scan, OCT creates a 3D image of the back of your eye. This can help your optometrist detect and monitor early signs of eye conditions and any changes in the anatomical structure of the eye.
As we grow older, our retinas may change in ways not always visible on the surface and without physical symptoms. Early detection of serious eye conditions can make a significant difference in the outcome for the patient.
Thorough and comfortable
In 2023, an eye examination should not only be more comprehensive, but easier to understand - and comfort is paramount. Adding a regular eye test to your calendar has never been easier.
