Off-road bikers churn up grass and leave cars splattered with mud as problem grows in Swansea

Off road bikers have left cars covered in mud after once again churning up grass areas in Swansea.

Just a few weeks after witnesses watched as up to ten youngsters on motorbikes left deep grooves in communal grass areas outside flats in Penlan, bikers were once again leaving damage in their wake in the north of Swansea.

Yesterday, they were spotted on roads in Morriston and Treboeth, where innocent car owners were left with cleaning up jobs after their vehicles were splattered with mud.

One victim, whose car was parked on Beaufort Road in Morriston, said: "I’d left my car and was taking dogs for walk. I was on way back when I saw the five off road bikes that were on main road doing wheelies, and one was on the grass doing turns and burning up the grass.

"They didn’t have any licence plates and were noisy and quite intimating. They went passed me and I just thought they were idiots due to way they were driving.

"I walked for a few minutes more and then could see my car was covered in mud and grass.

"When I got back to it I could see a whole of one side was covered, and the grass around it had all be churned up. It took me few minutes to scrap enough mud off the window screen to be able to see. Then I had to drive to a garage and to power wash it just to get worst of the mud off, but I noticed it still had some on it the following day.

"They had been driving dangerously and although I was annoyed about my car I was more annoyed at the state the grass was left in. "It was pure vandalism and totally disrespectful.

"I rang police who said that as nobody had been injured and I had no number plates they couldn’t really do anything".

Another driver whose vehicle was on Heol y Cnap in Treboeth added: "It took place around 1 - 2 pm and on the same day a few streets down they did it to the entire street.

"I just think is immature, and I’m just lucky it didn’t get as bad as other cars, as mine car was parked quite further from the grass"

The latest incidents come days after South Wales Police described one of its police vans being pelted with muck as 'cowardly behaviour'.

The force shared images of one of its vehicles that had been deliberately covered in dirt and mud in Swansea's Eastside.

A South Wales Police spokesman said: "Off road biking continues to be a concern for local communities, and South Wales Police will investigate any such issues reported to us. We encourage anyone who has concerns connected to off road bikes in their area to report them to us via our online portal https://bit.ly/SWPReportOnline or by calling 101.”
