Off-road bikers causing 'horrendous' noise problems around new Hucknall estate

Residents living on a new estate say there is a "horrendous" problem with off-road bikers driving loudly late at night.

There are a number of new houses which have been built on land in Hucknall and dubbed the "Rolls Royce housing estate" as it is on a former airfield.

However, despite residents living there claiming it has a great sense of community, loud motorbikes going off road late at night nearby have been causing problems for those living there.

They say the bikes are very noisy and are tearing up the land - becoming a real problem for people on the new and otherwise appealing neighbourhood.

Police have now upped patrols in the area after residents reported the bikers causing problems for those living there.

Maggie Coleman, 67, has lived locally for more than 30 years. She said: "I live just opposite the Rolls Royce site - it's definitely a problem here.

"The noise is worst at night time, from about 9pm onwards it is so loud and that's the worst thing I think.

"It happens a lot of nights - although I have heard it in the daytime as well. I'm glad police are trying to get on top of it."

George Brown, 81, has gone for a walk in the area every day this year.

"You see it a lot more in the woodland area," he said.

"They go where the football pitches are and tear them up in the winter unfortunately. I come here all the time, it's a lovely area and they don't come along the footpaths as much which is good."

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It's a massive pain for everyone living here.

"It's been going on for quite a few years now and this area is particularly bad for it.

"I haven't actually heard them for the last few weeks, since police have been coming here and patrolling - I saw them here recently actually.

"They go through the woods and the noise is absolutely horrendous - it's constant, it's just all the time. They go at dangerous speeds, too. There are a lot of families that live around here."

John Stevens, 70, told Nottinghamshire Live: "You can see all the tyre marks on the ground from where they go.

"I don't live here but I come here often and I'm not surprised people are fed up with them."

A spokesperson for Ashfield Police said: "Local officers from the Hucknall Beat Team, were out on foot patrol around the Rolls Royce Estate, after receiving reports of off road bikes causing a nuisance in the area.

"The Off Road Bike Team have been out assisting the Bulwell Neighbourhood Policing Team and have also been out and about around the Rolls Royce Estate, after receiving further nuisance reports of off road bikes.

"Please feel free to report any anti-social behaviour in your area. You can do this by contacting us on 101 or by emailing us at ashfieldNPT@nottinghamshire.pnn.police.uk."
