Off-licences added to list of 'essential' places that can stay open during UK lockdown

The list of places that have been classed as 'essential' and can remain open during the UK lockdown has been updated.

Following the Prime Minister Boris Johnson's announcement on Monday of strict new measures to curb the spread of coronavirus where the public were ordered to stay home and only leave the house for a few specific reasons, a list of places that would have to close was devised with only certain exceptions.

Off-licences is among the latest to be included after pubs, restaurants, bars and clubs were forced to shut.

This refers to licensed shops selling alcohol, including those in breweries.

Public toilets, cash points and car rental services were also the latest places to be added to the list.

Mr Johnson had already listed supermarkets, corner shops, pharmacies, hardware stores, banks, petrol stations, garages and bike shops as 'essential' places and those have remained open.

Other such as hairdressers, beauty salons, libraries, playgrounds and places of worship were classed as 'non-essential' and were told to close following the latest announcement.

The fill list can be found here.
