LOS ANGELES – Beneil Dariush finds himself in a peculiar spot.
Dariush takes on Frank Camacho on Oct. 26 at UFC on ESPN+ 20, and he doesn’t think there’s much to gain with a win.
“You know, I think he’s 3-3 or 2-3 in the UFC, something like that, but he’s fought some of the toughest guys,” Dariush said at Dominance MMA media day. “And he always goes there, and it’s always a war, and if he loses, he always loses by a hair. So for me to win this fight, it’s not going to do much for me. And if I lose this fight, it looks bad. It’s an interesting situation to be in. I don’t know where I’m going to go from here afterwards.”
In a weird way, Dariush believes the UFC is punishing him for pulling out a week before his scheduled fight with Drakkar Klose in July. Now he has to fly halfway across the world to take on a tough, but not very established Camacho.
“This is a really strange situation for me,” Dariush said. “Because I was supposed to fight a couple of months ago, I broke my foot and toes, so I had to pull out a week before the fight. I almost feel like the UFC might not be happy with me because Frank Camacho, he’s so dang tough. Like you watch his fights, he’s either in a fight of the night or whatever it is, it’s just brutal. All his fights are brutal, but he doesn’t have the best record.”
