An elderly Wigan Athletic fan was revived by paramedics after suffering a heart attack before the club's game on Saturday.
The man collapsed on the DW Stadium's West Stand concourse just minutes before kick off in the game against Barnsley.
A family of Latics season ticket holders rushed to his aid, with one - an off-duty nurse - performing CPR on the man, while her husband sought medical assistance.
Paramedics arrived at the scene soon after and continued delivering chest compressions, eventually managing to revive him.
He was then transferred to the ground's main first aid room, before being taken to Wigan Infirmary for further treatment.
The club has since announced that the man's condition has improved. He is expected to undergo surgery later this week.
A spokesperson for Wigan Athletic said: "I can confirm at our match vs Barnsley that a medical incident occurred on the West Stand concourse, just prior to the start of the game.
"I am happy to say that the elderly gentleman is doing OK. He will remain in hospital until he can have surgery later this week."
A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 2.53pm to the DW Stadium to reports that someone had been taken ill and collapsed.
"We sent resources to the scene and we had some staff on scene already to deliver first aid.
"The patient was taken to hospital by ambulance. He was quite poorly."
Wigan Athletic went on to draw the game 0-0, leaving the club inside the Championship relegation zone.
