Off-duty garda injured after approaching men acting suspiciously in Stillorgan

An off-duty garda was injured after being rammed to the ground by a car he tried to intercept on a quiet South Dublin road.

Gardai are investigating after the member approached three men who had been acting suspiciously on Glenalbyn Road in Stillorgan on Saturday evening.

The guard had been passing on his motorcycle when he saw the men allegedly trying to break into a house.

He then stopped and identified himself before blocking their path with his bike.

The men got in their vehicle before the guard was knocked to the ground and allegedly threatened.

A spokesman said the injured member was taken to Vincent's Hospital where his injuries are not life-threatening.

He said: "GardaI are investigating a suspected assault incident on a 27 year old male Garda member that occurred at Glenalbyn Road, Stillorgan at approximately 5pm on Saturday 7th August 2019.

"The member observed 3 males acting in a suspicious manner at a residence and blocked their path with his motorcycle after identifying himself as a Garda.

"The males entered their vehicle and collided with the motorcycle, injuring the Garda.

"The males then allegedly threatened the Garda before fleeing the scene. The member was taken to St Vincent's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing."
