Ofcom hit with nearly 2,000 complaints over Alesha Dixon's statement BLM necklace on BGT

Ofcom are 'deciding whether to investigate' after Britain's Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon wore a BLM necklace on Saturday's show.

The broadcasting watchdog received 1,901 complaints after the show aired on September 19 and a spokesperson told Mirror Online that the majority relate to Alesha’s jewellery.

The 41-year-old judge shared her support behind the Black Lives Matter movement as she appeared on the ITV talent series by modelling a gold necklace that spelled BLM.

She also decided on the glittering statement in a defiant stand against the racist backlash to Diversity's BGT performance the week prior.

A number of viewers complained to Ofcom about the talented beauty wearing the necklace and the watchdog are now "assessing" the complaints.

An Ofcom spokesperson told Mirror Online, earlier this week: “We are assessing these complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.”

Alesha's powerful statement came after Diversity faced 24,500 Ofcom complaints for a breathtaking BGT performance that was dedicated to the Black Lives Matter movement.

While many supported Diversity's incredible show, a select group of angry viewers fumed about the dance and threatened to boycott BGT.

Ofcom has since announced it will not be investigating the Diversity performance, explaining: "Its central message was a call for social cohesion and unity."

ITV have also come out in full support of Diversity and printed full-page adverts in all national newspapers on Saturday.

The ad featured a photo of Ashley Banjo taking a knee during the performance, alongside the caption: “We are changed by what we see. Just as we are changed when we are seen.”

A message at the bottom read: “ITV. Stand with Diversity.”
