The meme, which stems from Wednesday’s inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, portrays Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont sitting at the ceremony, arms crossed in his casual winter coat and mittens while holding a manila envelope.
Since this image of Sanders looking more the part of a bored grandpa than a dignitary at major event first crossed, it’s gone on to become the first major viral meme of 2021 over the last few days, as he’s been photoshopped on countless scenarios. From subway trains to “Game of Thrones,” the Sanders meme is infiltrating all communities. And that, of course, includes the combat sports sphere.
