Odsonne Edouard ‘wanted’ by AC Milan but Celtic handed January boost as Aston Villa drop out of race

Celtic have been handed a boost in their bid to hold onto Odsonne Edouard with Aston Villa unlikely to make a move, according to a report.

The English club are on the lookout for a new striker in the January window to help Ollie Watkins and had been heavily linked with Edouard in the summer.

But the Athletic now report they won't be making a bid to sign the Frenchman because his price tag is too high for them.

It's good news for Celtic and Neil Lennon but they might be worried about another team who have reportedly joined the race to sign Edouard.

The same report states that AC Milan have developed an interest in him and will watch him closely - potentially leading to a move in the January window.

Edouard hasn't been at his best this season and has also struggled with fitness and Covid-19 issues, meaning he's netted just 10 goals in 21 games so far this campaign.

Just five of those have come in the league with just two since the first day of the season when he netted a hat-trick against Hamilton.

Edouard has been valued at up to £30m but is out of contract in 18 months and that could force Celtic into a big decision.
