Odsonne Edouard to Real Madrid transfer mooted as Celtic striker is 'recommended' by Zinedine Zidane

Odsonne Edouard has been linked with a shock switch from Celtic to Real Madrid.

The Frenchman has 18 months left to run on his Celtic contract although the Scottish Premiership champions could look to cash in on their prized asset this summer.

Neil Lennon revealed last month that none of his big name stars would be leaving during the January window.

Edouard hasn’t hit the heights he previously has in green and white this season, but there will be no shortage of interest in the French under 21 international.

AC Milan, Juventus, Arsenal and Leicester have all been credited with an interest in the former Paris-SG youngster, who the Hoops splashed out £9m on to sign permanently from the French club.

But now Defensa Centra l report Real Madrid could try and sign the 23-year-old.

The Spanish giants have loaned out forwards Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz and need a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema, who will be 34 this year.

And the website claims sources close to the club have told them that coach Zinedine Zidane has personally recommended his fellow countryman as an ideal transfer target.

Their pursuit of Kylian Mbappe looks like being too expensive for now after the Covid pandemic hit them to the tune of €106million.

That’s forced them to look at cheaper alternatives, and Real reckon they could get Edouard for around €25million.
