Odsonne Edouard shatters his Celtic hoodoo just in time for Rangers date with destiny

Celtic's comprehensive victory over Dundee United gave Neil Lennon plenty of reasons to be optimistic ahead of this weekend's Old Firm Derby.

And none of them were more potent than the return to form of Odsonne Edouard.

The French talisman has suffered from a stop-start season so far.

There have been highlights - his strike against AC Milan and his wonderful penalty against Hearts to name a couple - but his performances have dipped along with the rest of his team-mates.

Ahead of Wednesday's 3-0 victory, one stat told the story of his struggles better than no other.

Incredibly, his last domestic goal from open play came all the way back on the opening game of the season, when he scored a hat-trick as Celtic hit Hamilton for five.

Each of his four since came from the penalty spot, meaning he had gone 15 league and cup appearances without one.

It's a hoodoo he was desperate to shake ahead of a make or break clash with Rangers.

And he did so when he ran onto Leigh Griffiths' pass and coolly finished past Benjamin Siegrist to put Lennon's side out of reach.

He had netted from the penalty spot against Hamilton just days previously, a game in which he also laid on two assists for his team-mates.

But breaking his open play hoodoo will be a major weight off his shoulders ahead of a fixture that offers Celtic one last chance to claw their way back into the title race.
