Odsonne Edouard's 'disrespectful' Celtic penalty gets unlikely defence as Hearts hero rubbishes Neil McCann claim

Steven Naismith has rubbished claims Odsonne Edouard 's Panenka penalty was disrespectful.

Pundit Neil McCann insisted he wasn't impressed with the striker's decision to dink Craig Gordon during Sunday's Scottish Cup Final at Hampden.

Edouard's spot-kick put Celtic 2-0 up against Hearts before the Jambos roared back to force a penalty shootout.

And despite losing out on spot-kicks, Naismith insists there should be no issue with Edouard's ice-cool approach from 12 yards.

He said: "If it wins you the cup it wins you the cup. I’ve seen many goalies, even in training, react the same way.

"It’s not really that big a deal for me. To have the bottle to do that in the cup final shows you the quality of player he is.”

McCann had earlier claimed Edouard was "selfish" in chipping the ball over his former team-mate.

He said: "I can understand (Craig Gordon's reaction). I think that's pretty disrespectful.

"It's come off for him and it looks brilliant. It's just selfish. I didn't like it. It's not because Celtic have gone two-nil up - that's his (former) team-mate and that's why Craig's reacted like that.

"That was a little bit cheeky."
