Odsonne Edouard's Celtic asking price drop as Brendan Rodgers plots potential Leicester City reunion

Celtic’s asking price for Odsonne Edouard may be up to £10million less than they could have asked for last season.

The French striker is in the final 18 months of his contract and his form hasn’t hit the heights it has during previous years.

He has been linked with AC Milan, Juventus, Aston Villa and Brendan Rodgers ' Leicester City, who could launch a bid to reunite the front man with his previous boss.

A move could even be made this month with Jamie Vardy out for a few weeks due to a hernia operation and The Foxes very much in the title hunt.

Another option to cover Vardy’s absence could be the difference between them replicating their miracle 2015/16 season or not.

It’s unlikely that Edouard will sign a new Celtic contract at this stage, and the time could come for Neil Lennon - or whoever is in charge - to cash in this summer as they look to rebuild from what as been a damaging Scottish Premiership campaign.

Up to £30million had been floated as a price tag that Celtic would put on Edouard’s head.

But with just a year left on his deal come the summer and his relative slump in goal scoring this term (Edouard has still managed 11 goals this season), Talksport transfer expert Alex Crook believes they’ll have to accept a slightly lesser fee in the circumstances.

He said: “One name that keeps coming up in conversations with people close to Leicester is Odsonne Edouard at Celtic.

“He’s in the last 18 months of his contract, is reluctant to sign a new deal and could be available for £20m.

“That looks a shrewd bit of business for me, and they do need back-up and even a long-term successor to Jamie Vardy, so watch that one between now and the end of the window.”
