Odsonne Edouard proved Celtic fans were right to brand him an empty jersey with his Crystal Palace double – Hotline

The SPFL Gang of Five have kicked off a probe to look in to the finances of the game with the hope of doubling the dosh within the next five years.

Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Dundee United and Dundee are all on the case as they reckons the clubs are being currently short changed.

Rangers and Celtic are not involved though and punters already have their doubts about the whole investigation and SPFL chiefs are back in the firing line as well.

Rab Hunter, Dumfries, said: “No wonder the SPFL are in support of the joint strategic review, it means clubs are paying an external firm to do the SPFL’s job.

“And why would anyone take part in a joint venture with Dundee, they will simply sell you down the river for a guarantee of promotion.”

Kenneth Houston emailed: “So Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts, Dundee and Dundee Utd are looking at ways to improve the financial worth of Scottish Football, without involving Rangers or Celtic.

“Good luck to them, but be cautious, if you get more money then the Glasgow Mafia will want their share, which will be bigger than anyone else’s. Otherwise they will block it.

"The only way to get things done for all of Scottish football is to get rid of the stupid rules for voting, where Premiership teams have more votes than the lower league teams. Make it one vote per team, a simple majority vote.”

Punters hit back after Hotline caller Robert McEwan had a pop at the quality of the Edinburgh Derby.

John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “The only thing dark, dull and boring about Scottish football is guys like caller Robert and his ilk. Quick to put down our game yet never off the Hotline with his Old Firm, mines bigger than yours garbage.

“The Edinburgh derby was a damned sight more exciting than his Celtic team's recent game with Rangers. But rather than resort to his pathetic gibes I’ll just chill and get ready to enjoy this weekend's Dundee derby.

“I’d rather watch any Premiership game than many an insipid EPL match. Dark, dull and more boring than Newcastle? Give it a rest Bob.”

George Fairgrieve emailed: “Robert belittles Tam McManus’s assertion that the Edinburgh derby was a good advert for Scottish football by comparing it to the Man United game.

“Well Rob, we don’t pay players £500,000 a week and, talking of Juniors, United got beaten by a bunch of Young Boys this week.”

Odsonne Edouard is off earning big bucks in the EPL as well but it hasn’t ended the great debate over the Frenchman and Rangers ace Alfredo Morelos.

Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “So Eduardo scores two tap ins against a 10-man Spurs team chasing the game and the first thing on Hotline caller Brian McColligan’s mind is European record-breaking Alfredo Morelos.

“Remind me again when did Spurs last win anything unlike the teams Morelos is scoring against regularly Porto, Feyenoord, Benfica, the list is endless.”

Jim Mackenzie, East Kilbride, said: “Brian McColligan thinks Edouard proved Hotline regulars wrong by scoring twice in six minutes for Crystal Palace but it actually proved those who called him an empty jersey were correct.

“He had downed tools for Celtic, or maybe it was having decent players supplying him that made the difference, something his rotten Celtic team didn’t supply.”
