Odsonne Edouard position change explained as ex Celtic star solves Crystal Palace puzzle

Patrick Vieira has hailed Odsonne Edouard 's role in Crystal Palace's shock victory over Manchester City - even though it was Wilfried Zaha who led the line.

Edouard moved from Celtic in the summer and announced himself to the Premier League in some style with a double against Tottenham.

Since then, the goals have hardly been flowing - he's netted just once in six appearances.

But he has established himself as a key player under Vieira and hasn't been left out of the XI since he started for the first time against Brighton.

Recently, Edouard has been deployed in an unfamiliar left wing position in order to get the best out of goal threats Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke.

And it was a tactical move that proved to be a stroke of genius as Palace upset City on their own turf on Saturday.

Speaking after the game, Vieira was full of praise for Zaha's match-winning performance.

But he also took the time to single out Edouard and fellow auxiliary winger Jordan Ayew who both impressed.

He said: "Today we knew that we will not create as much as we will want to, but those couple of chances that we are going to create will be very important for us to take it.

"Wilfried taking his chance was important for us. After that, we defended really well. I think the back four had a terrific game. When you look at Jordan [Ayew] or Edouard on the other side coming to play the two against one, because we know the strength in the one vs one.

"In the one vs one Wilfried is a really dangerous player and he can stretch the opposition team by running behind.

"And that was the decision that we made and it worked today. And now I think it's good to to show to the players that we have an interesting team and it's important for them to understand that anybody can bring some things to the to the team."
