Odsonne Edouard injury fears as Celtic star 'receiving treatment' despite reporting for France U21 duty

Odsonne Edouard has reported for international duty with France U21s despite missing Celtic's last two fixtures.

But it's claimed the Parkhead star could be ruled out of Les Espoirs' Euro qualifying clash with Georgia as he receives treatment for an ongoing thigh issue.

A report from France indicates the striker has been carefully dealt with since joining his team-mates in Clairefontaine earlier this week.

The 22-year-old was absent for last week's painful Champions League exit to Ferencvaros and Sunday's win over Motherwell.

He linked up with Sylvain Ripoli's side but L’Equipe report he's still struggling for fitness.

France are due to face the Georgians on Friday before travelling to take on Azerbaijan on Monday.

A prolific Edouard has scored seven goals in just four qualifying appearances since breaking into the team in 2019.

Meanwhile, John Barnes has urged Neil Lennon to "sort out" his Celtic squad - with or without Edouard.

Record Sport revealed last week the striker was set to hold talks with advisors over his future following a painful Champions League exit.

Celtic are keen to tie their talisman down on a new deal as they chase history.

There's been no indication Edouard isn't committed to the cause but former Parkhead boss Barnes insists the club must be sure he's all-in for the season ahead.

He feels it's vital Lennon maintains "harmony" in the dressing room and predicted a stronger title challenge from Rangers in the coming months.

Barnes told Bonus Code Bets: “I think Neil Lennon is ready to move things around although he hasn’t mentioned any names. But Celtic need to get their squad sorted, whether that’s with or without Edouard.

“Rangers seem to be much stronger this year and they’re going to push Celtic. Therefore, both clubs want to be settled more from the point of view of harmony, togetherness and belief.

“To achieve this, Celtic need to get their situation sorted out in terms of players who want to be there, or not be there, to then focus on fighting for the cause.

Odsonne Edouard is not going to be the deciding factor whether Celtic will win this year, it’s all about the team and the team’s attitude.

“If he wants to stay - great - but if there’re doubts, it’s better to let him go.”

It's understood Champions League football is important to Edouard - but not a decisive factor in sparking a potential exit.

The 22-year-old agent Lasana Koita told Record Sport clinching the club's historic tenth straight Premiership title is important to his client.

He said: "Odsonne is happy at Celtic and enjoys life in Scotland.

He is disappointed with the result on Wednesday especially as he was injured and could not play. I think the goal was certainly to qualify for the Champions League. That is football.

“I will speak with him.

“It is not crucial for Odsonne to be playing in the Champions League but it is important.

“We are going to wait because there is still a target for Celtic. There’s the Europa League and to go for 10 titles.

“Ten titles is important for Odsonne.

“We don’t know what will happen. For now he is with Celtic. We don’t discuss with any other team for now.”
