Odsonne Edouard in Celtic vs Rangers return confusion as Hoops await Covid-19 guidance

Confusion reigns over Odsonne Edouard ’s Covid-19 return timescale with the first derby of the season only 10 days away.

The French star became the highest profile player in Scotland to be struck down by coronavirus on Tuesday.

Celtic confirmed the striker had tested positive after returning to his homeland on international duty with his national Under-21 side.

Edouard is now isolating and won’t feature in matches against Liechtenstein on Thursday night and Slovakia next Monday.

However the further concern for Celtic is that the 22-year-old could also be ruled out of their side’s Premiership showdown with Rangers on October 17.

Guidelines in France dictate that virus sufferers must quarantine for seven days after government officials halved the previous fortnight isolation period last month.

That’s three days less than for anyone who tests positive in the UK.

However reports have emerged suggesting Edouard is set to isolate for the full 10 days in France before returning to Scotland.

Celtic remain in talks with government health officials to determine the length of quarantine the player must observe.

Record Sport understands the Parkhead club is still awaiting a definitive answer.

Edouard could have picked up the virus during the journey to the French national HQ at Clarefontaine, 50km south west of Paris.

The Hoops were dealt a further blow on Wednesday afternoon when Ryan Christie was ruled out of the derby in 10 days’ time after Scotland team mate Stuart Armstrong tested positive in the Scotland international camp.

As a result Christie and Kieran Tierney must now isolate for 14 days after being in close contact with the midfielder.
