Odsonne Edouard in Celtic schedule conflict as striker 'likely to miss' Champions League qualifiers due to Olympics

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard is reportedly set to be ruled out of some crucial European fixtures for the Hoops as he's in line for an Olympics call-up.

The frontman's record-breaking form for France Under-21s make him an obvious pick for the Under-24 side his country are preparing to pick for Tokyo 2021.

The Scottish Sun insist coach Sylvain Ripoll will include him in the squad when he takes the team to the Far East and with France's group stage campaign starting on July 22 it clashes with some crucial Champions League ties.

France could then stay in the tournament all the way until the August 7 final or the bronze medal match the day before.

Meanwhile, as 2020-21 Premiership runners-up, Celtic begin their qualification route in the non-champions path from the second round.

That runs on 20/21 and 27/28 July, followed by the third round on 3/4 and 10 August.

Should the Parkhead club lose out and drop down to the Europa League it will be the same story with games running in those weeks.

It could be a moot point if Edouard, in the final year of his contract in Glasgow, is sold before a conflict of scheduling comes to pass.

But new CEO Dominic McKay may opt to keep stars such as Edouard and Kristoffer Ajer until the European picture becomes clear.
