Odsonne Edouard in Celtic injury sweat after star striker misses out on France game

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has not made it into the France Under-21s squad to face Georgia on Friday, sparking fresh fears around his fitness.

Edouard didn't feature for the Hoops in last week's Champions League elimination to Ferencvaros and missed out again the following weekend against Motherwell.

He was however called up to the French youth side for a tour of the Caucasus.

But as team news was revealed before the 6pm kick-off it's clear Edouard is still some way off fitness as Nice youngster Amin Gouiri started in his place, with the Parkhead goal hero only fit enough for the bench.

Record Sport revealed on Thursday that medical staff at Celtic were being regularly updated by their counterparts in the young Bleus.

Edouard has been involved in training at the team's camp in the capital of Tbilisi but it was understood that coach Sylvain Ripoll wasn't prepared to risk the frontman.

His side travel to Azerbaijan on Monday to round off the international break before heading home.

The Premiership champions take on Ross County after the break, with Lennon hoping to have his star man available.

And the fact Edouard has been passed fit enough to be among the substitutes will offer encouragement to the Parkhead boss.
