Odsonne Edouard fitness update as Celtic star faces downbeat AC MIlan prognosis following Covid fight

Neil Lennon has revealed Odsonne Edouard is unlikely to return to the Celtic squad for Thursday night's game against AC Milan.

The Hoops take on the Italian giants in the Europa League but are likely to still be without Edouard, while Nir Bitton and Hatem Elhamed are also major doubts.

Ryan Christie was the other player who missed the 2-0 defeat to Rangers because of the coronavirus crisis that has wreaked havoc on the squad, but he could be back in action.

Lennon admitted that Edouard never had a chance of being fit enough to play against Rangers after isolating in France and then returning to Scotland on Friday.

And the Celtic boss also explained Christopher Jullien's continued absence with a back injury and is desperate to get that fixed soon.

He said: “We have to get our players back fit. Hopefully Ryan will be available and we’ll see how Odsonne is.

“Odsonne’s had cardiac and blood tests and we’ll see how he is. He’s not trained for nearly two weeks and only got back yesterday.

“We can’t take a chance on anyone’s health and he wasn’t ready anyway. We knew he had no chance but couldn’t say it publicly.

“I doubt he’ll be okay for Thursday. It’s not like we can just bring him back in for training. He has to be assessed to see how much the virus has taken out of him.

“It’ll be the same for Bitton and Hatem but Ryan will hopefully get the all clear this week.

“Jullien is still struggling with his back, it’s an ongoing issue we need to get sorted.”
