Odsonne Edouard earns France U21 call-up as in-form Celtic star follows in Moussa Dembele's footsteps

Celtic star Odsonne Edoaurd has been called up to France's U21 squad for the first time.

Les Espoirs boss Sylvain Ripoli has been impressed with the striker's fast start to the new season and has handed the former Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate his big chance.

Edouard's return to the international fold is his first international selection since starring for the U19s in 2017.

The 21-year-old forward will feature in the friendly double-header against Albania and the Czech Republic next month.

Edouard has bagged five goals already this season and is Neil Lennon's No.1 striker as Celtic eye a run in the Europa League and eight-in-a-row.

Hoops team-mate Olivier Ntcham isn't included as he is now outwith the age range to be selected for the U21s and it's the same story with Moussa Dembele .

But the Lyon striker will be disappointed after missing out on a place in France's senior squad for matches against Albania and Andorra.

Dembele has started the season like a runaway train in Ligue 1 but has failed to win a place in the 24-man squad.

Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette is also on the outside looking in with Olivier Giroud keeping his place among Deschamp's attacking options.
