Odsonne Edouard delivers his own Celtic to Milan transfer roadblock as star paints frosty Zlatan Ibrahimovic picture

Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard has been heavily linked with a move to Milan and it's easy to see why the move would be attractive.

As revealed by Record Sport there is no prospect of a deal in January but the chance to play at San Siro for one of the world's biggest clubs would be hard to turn down for any player.

Edouard impressed the Milan hierarchy in the 4-2 Europa League defeat, dinking a cool finish over Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Technical director Paolo Maldini has form for signing players who impress against the Rossoneri and snapped up Jens Petter Hauge after a qualifier.

Italian media have touted Edouard as a potential backup to Zlatan Ibrahimovic who will be 40 in October and has struggled with injuries this season.

The legendary Swedish striker is the top dog at Milanello but Edouard has played with him before.

And it appears the pair had a somewhat frosty relationship, casting doubt on the Frenchman's desire to move to Serie A for a backup role.

Edouard explained to Onze Mondial in 2018: "When I was at PSG, Edinson Cavani gave me advice every day.

"Whether it was my positional sense, my finishing, or even my speed he spoke to me a lot.

"That a great striker like him took the time to talk to me, that really gave me confidence. He was basically responsible for my new status as a forward and gave me confidence.

"During my time at PSG Zlatan Ibrahimovic was there too but he was different.

"To him I was just a kid and that was it. He didn't speak the same language as me so it wasn't easy to communicate.

"From time-to-time he'd give me some advice with gestures but there wasn't much communication between us."

Ibrahimovic may have taken on more of a mentoring role in the twilight of his career though as he revealed in an interview this week.

The veteran often compares himself to a lion but it was an altogether more family friendly parallel he looked for in an interview with Sportweek.

He said: "I never ask for anything for myself [at Christmas].

"I am Santa Claus. I am the one who brings gifts to all my 27 children: two are in Sweden and the other 25 are at Milanello!"
