Odsonne Edouard Celtic transfer verdict as Eddie Howe factor tipped to 'convince' striker

Former Celtic defender Mark Wilson believes Odsonne Edouard could be convinced to stay at Parkhead by Eddie Howe.

The Frenchman will enter the final year of his deal in Glasgow's east end this summer and he would be free to speak to other clubs from January.

If Celtic can't agree a new deal with the 23-year-old the Parkhead club would be forced to sell-up this summer to recoup the £9million paid to Paris Saint-Germain for the striker.

However, Wilson reckons that the imminent arrival of Eddie Howe could convince Edouard to pen a new deal.

He reckons that star names such as Ryan Christie and Kris Ajer could still be at the club next term if the former Bournemouth boss launches a charm offensive.

Wilson told Sky Sports : “It looks as if Eddie Howe is interested in the Celtic job but might not take it until the summer.

“I’m of the opinion I’d like to see Eddie in Glasgow now – this week.

“You want to get him in before the Scottish Cup tie against Rangers to give him the best opportunity to assess the squad.

“And maybe he can try and convince some of these guys who are linked with moves away like Edouard, (Kris) Ajer and (Ryan) Christie that it’s in their best interests to stay under him and a new coaching team.

“But it’s a tough decision for the Celtic hierarchy to get right.”
