Odsonne Edouard Celtic transfer news as 'Brendan Rodgers tax' cited in failed Leicester City deal

Striker Odsonne Edouard may well leave Celtic this summer - just not for Leicester City.

The 23-year-old had long been linked with a reunion with his former boss Brendan Rodgers at the King Power Stadium.

It was Rodgers who brought the Frenchman to Parkhead, initially on-loan in 2017 before he sealed a permanent move worth £9million.

The Leicester manager confirmed at the end of the season he was in the market for a striker and it had been reported a fee was agreed between the two clubs.

But the Foxes have now turned their attention elsewhere, namely to Patson Daka.

The Athletic report a deal for the RB Salzburg attacker was deemed less complicated and less expensive by Rodgers and recruitment chief Lee Congerton, another former Celtic man.

Edouard has just one year left on his contract and it's said Celtic continue to dig their heels in over his valuation.

It's also reported any business with Leicester now carries a "Rodgers tax", following the Irishman's acrimonious Parkhead exit in 2019.

It appears it's one the Premier League side were not willing to pay.

Edouard's future was likely on the agenda when new boss Ange Postecoglou met new chief-executive Dominic McKay in London on Friday.

Postecoglou's isolation period has ended following his arrival from Japan and he will now get down to work as manager, with Celtic's first Champions League qualifier against Midtjylland just 32 days away.
