HOUSTON _ Rangers' Elvis Andrus tied Tuesday's game against the Astros in the ninth with a two-out triple, and Jurickson Profar followed with an RBI single as the Texas Rangers rallied to win, 3-2.
The victory dropped the Rangers' magic number over the second-place Seattle Mariners to eight.
A.J. Griffin allowed two runs in seven innings, both solo homers by Jose Altuve and Jason Castro.
Adrian Beltre started the second inning with a home run, his 30th of the season, to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. But Altuve, who also had two singles, tied the game in the fourth, and Castro put Houston ahead on the first pitch of the sixth inning.
Griffin allowed only four hits, struck out seven and walked only one.
The winning rally against Astros reliever Ken Giles started with one out as he struck out Rougned Odor only to see the second baseman reach on a wild pitch. Mitch Moreland struck out for the second out, and Andrus followed with a drive up Tal Hill in straightaway center field to tie the game.
Profar hit the next pitch into left field that would end up being the winning run.
Tanner Scheppers recorded the save for the Rangers, allowing zero base runners. The Rangers go for the sweep Wednesday evening.
