Odisha woman dies after alleged wrong injection at medicine store, staff detained

A 55-year-old woman died after allegedly being administered a wrong injection at a medicine store in Odisha's Rayagada district, police told PTI. The incident took place at JK Pur on Thursday, following which police detained the person accused of administering the injection and launched an investigation.

The deceased was identified as Baidehi Kumar, a resident of Getipada village under Chandili police limits in Rayagada district.

According to her family, Baidehi had been suffering from fever and cold for the past few days, as per a PTI report. As her condition did not improve despite taking medication, she visited a medicine store in JK Pur on Thursday, where a staff member identified as A K Bhadra allegedly administered an injection.

Police said Baidehi developed severe adverse reactions soon after receiving the injection, and her condition deteriorated rapidly.

Woman dies on way to hospital

The family later filed a complaint at Chandili police station, alleging that the injection administered at the medicine store led to her death.

Accused detained, investigation underway

Following the complaint, Chandili police detained A K Bhadra for questioning.

"We have received a written complaint from the deceased woman's family. The woman had received the injection at a medicine store. The man who administered the injection has been detained for questioning," Chandili police station inspector-in-charge Uttam Sahu said.

Police said the investigation is underway and further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report and the findings of the probe.
