Odisha to segregate Covid data of 0-18 age group

BHUBANESWAR: The state government will put out a separate data of the daily Covid infection among the 0-18 age group on its Covid dashboard from Sunday amid predictions of children and adolescents likely to bear the brunt of a possible third wave.

The government’s promptness to segregate the data for its own understanding and also for greater public awareness comes in the wake of the second wave stretching too far. The move also coincides with three Covid-hit children being brought to Vimsar, Burla in a serious condition.

“The segregated data will be generated to understand the severity with which the virus affects the below 18 year population. It will also help hospitals and health invigilators make interventional strategies accordingly,” additional health secretary (health) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra said. The health department sources said the hospitalisation of patients below 18 years of age, the level of severity and recoveries will be prepared for health administrators at the district- levels.
