Odisha: Sonepur’s Kartik Panigrahi 63rd on UPSC list

BHUBANESWAR: Karthik Panigrahi from Odisha secured 63rd rank in the Civil Services Examinations 2021 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), results of which were published on Monday.

Panigrahi, who hails from Sonepur, said, “It was my third attempt but I appeared for the Main examination and interview for the first time this year. I am glad that I cracked the toughest examination. I did not expect such a rank and the result is beyond my expectation.

Altogether 10 candidates from Odisha cleared the Main. Another candidate, Gourab Kumar Agarwal from Sundargarh, secured 86th rank. He had started his preparation for this examination in 2019. “It was my second attempt. I always wanted to solve the problems and challenges faced by the common people. It was my motivation to prepare for this examination and get into this service,” he added.

Other qualified candidates who made it to the merit list were Puja Sahu with 199th rank, Durga Prasad Adhikary (205), Mayank Mishra (228), Biswa Bisruta Tripathy (232), Samir Kumar Jena (273), Soumyaranjan Pradhan (306), Manas Ranjan Sahu (513) and Nayan Ranjan Das (614).

Some other candidates from Odisha also secured different ranks in the civil services examination.

Tripathy from Bhubaneswar, who has secured 232nd rank, is now working as an Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer in the state since March this year after securing 13th rank in the OAS examination. Before this, he was working as an Odisha Revenue Service (ORS) officer. This NIT Rourkela alumnus had received a job offer in a multinational company after completion of BTech.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated the successful candidates from Odisha who cleared this UPSC exam. “May they work with dedication and commitment to bring visible changes in peoples lives at the grassroots. Wish them bright careers ahead,” he added.

The UPSC had conducted the Main exam in January and interviews for the Personality Test in April-May this year. As many as 685 candidates have been recommended for appointment. In order of merit, the candidates will get Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Central Services, group A and group B.
