BHUBANESWAR: The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) on Saturday announced the annual higher secondary results of the science and commerce stream students for the academic year 2020-21. Breaking all past records, 95.15% students passed in science and 94.96% students passed in the commerce stream. Last year, the pass percentage was 70.21% and 74.95% for science and commerce, respectively.
“I congratulate all those who have passed the examinations. Amid the pandemic, the council members tried to do their best to evaluate the students based on an alternative assessment method,” school and mass education minister Samir Ranjan Dash said. He added that the CHSE had earlier decided to declare the results in the second week of August, but it was brought forward following the Supreme Courts directive to publish the Class XII results by July 31. The results of the arts and vocational stream will be announced on August 6, he said.
In the science stream, altogether 78,899 students were assessed, out of whom 78,809 students passed with 99.98% score. Girls outshone boys registering a pass percentage of 96.03% against the 94.46% pass percentage of boys. As many as 55,468 students passed with first division this year. A record 2,278 students secured above 90% marks against 137 such scorers last year. A total of 16,943 students passed with second division and 14,631 with third division. The pass percentage of ex-regular students in science stream is 71.27%.
In commerce stream, a total 21, 996 students were assessed of whom 21, 906 students passed the exam registering a pass percentage of 99.59%. Girls once again outshone boys with registering a pass percentage of 95.97% against the boys pass percentage of 94.39%.
As many as 8, 355 students passed in first division, 5692 students passed in second division while 9066 students passed in third division. As many as 149 students have secured 90% and above marks against 40 students last year. The pass percentage of ex-regular students was 71.27% in the commerce stream. The minister said, those students who are not happy with the marks they secured through the alternative assessment scheme may appear for the exam in offline mode. Dates and other information about the offline examination will be declared by the CHSE soon.
Due to the aggressive second wave of covid-19 the state government had cancelled the class XII examinations and decided to assess students based on an alternative system.
The results of over 1184 students remained withheld by the council as no answer paper of the students in the last few years is available with the council and they will appear the examination in offline mode.
