BHUBANESWAR: The crucial Odisha Panchayat Laws (amendment) Bill, 2021 and the Odisha Municipal Laws (amendment) Bill, 2021 have been listed to be tabled in the state assembly on Monday.
Panchayati raj minister Pratap Jena, who is also in-charge of the housing and urban development department, will introduce the two bills that will be taken up for discussion later. The amendment of both the laws is required to keep the electoral reservations within 50% in the panchayati raj institutions and the urban local bodies. The passage of the bills will also pave the way for the panchayat and the urban local body elections in the state likely to held early next year.
Though the details of the bills are not known, sources said the state government has made provisions in them to ensure adequate representation of the backward classes in the local body elections.
