BHUBANESWAR: A few hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to the states to cut fuel tax and give people some relief from rising cost, the Odisha government on Wednesday began internal consultations on whether it can further reduce value added tax on petrol and diesel.
“I request states to reduce VAT on fuel prices in the spirit of cooperative federalism,” Modi said while speaking at a meeting with chief ministers held online. CM Naveen Patnaik attended the meet.
Though Modi did not mention Odisha among the states with high fuel cost, a senior government functionary said the state will ensure the price doesn’t remain more compared to others in the region.
