Odisha Congress activists hurl eggs at Union minister Ajay Mishra’s convoy

BHUBANESWAR: Union minister of state for home Ajay Mishra, who has been in the eye of the storm following his son’s arrest over Lakhimpur Kheri violence, faced the ire of Congress during his visit to Odisha on Sunday.

The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) activists breached Mishra’s fortified convoy and hurled eggs at his car outside the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar.

The police detained several NSUI protesters, who also waved black flags at minister Mishra, who was in Odisha to attend an event at Munduli in Cuttack.

The Union minister is likely to visit Puri as well.

The minister’s son Ashish Mishra was arrested on October 9 in connection with the violence that erupted in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3.

A vehicle part of Mishra's convoy allegedly ran over a group of protesters, killing four farmers.

At least eight people were killed in the incident, which subsequently triggered violence and nationwide outrage.
