Odisha: BJP targets BJD over paddy purchase

BHUBANESWAR: The opposition BJP on Thursday targeted the state government over mismanagement in mandi and token system.

Alleging widespread irregularities in Rabi paddy procurement, the BJP leaders also staged dharna in front of all mandis.

As the Rabi procurement season ended on June 30, the BJP MLAs have written to chief minister Naveen Patnaik to extend the period by 15 days.

Senior BJP leader Prithiviraj Harichandan said farmers of the state are suffering because of the unholy nexus between the state government and millers.

Alleging that several farmers have failed to sell their paddy at the state-sponsored mandis under the price support system, Harichandan demanded to issue tokens to all registered farmers. “The Rabi procurement process in the state is in chaos. There is no coordination among various agencies of the government,” he said.

BJD said the opposition is shedding crocodile tears to divert attention from the farmers movement against the BJP-ruled states.
