Odisha: 5 Srirama Chandra Bhanja medical college staff held in Cuttack

CUTTACK: Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested five contractual employees of SCB Medical College and Hospital for alleged negligence in duty and diverting patient to private hospitals while taking huge money.

Getting a tip-off, Mangalabag Police conducted a raid on them and seized outdoor patient tickets from their possession along with Rs 1,300 cash. The five workers, all employees of radiology department, have been deceiving patients and sending them to other private hospitals on the pretext of better treatment, the police said.

"The five accused have been identified as Bijay Das, 50, of IB Road and Laxmidhar Naik, 42, of Jagatpur, Dipti Ranjan Nayak of Balikuda of Sadar, Sachidanand Sahoo, 48, of Masinghpatna and Ramani Ranjhan Mohapatra, 41, of Mahanga - all residents of Cuttack district," said DCP Pinak Mishra. The police said the group had collected money from patients who come from remote areas and diverted them to different private hospitals for diagnosis and treatment.

A case has been filed under Sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention). "A probe is on to know if hospital authorities were involved in the incident," added Mishra.
