BERHAMPUR: Baliguda in Kandhamal district received 302 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Tuesday due to the cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.
It was followed by 90.2 mm rainfall in K.Nuagaon, 89.2 mm in Phiringia and 87 mm in Kotagarh block in the district, official sources said.
The Baliguda bus stand, Khajurinal, Jamapada and Bhagamunda in the town were waterlogged, trapping people in their houses. At some places, rainwater along with drain water entered their houses and shops. “We have never received such heavy rain on a single day in our area in the last several years,” said Santosh Das, a resident. The entire town was submerged by rainwater and water from the hill areas entered the town.
